Wii Sports not uber crackin?

Tuesday, October 31st, 2006

Wii Sports Baseball

Wii Sports Baseball has other puzzling deficiencies. For instance, when you want to throw a curve ball, you don’t actually motion it, as you might suspect. No, why would you want to use a gesture for a console whose primary purpose is to promote unique and innovative ways to play? To throw a curve ball, you first select it on the D-Pad and then make a standard throwing motion. Huh? I can only guess that the accelerometer inside the Wii remote is incapable of distinguishing between a curve ball and a fastball. It is, nevertheless, very unfortunate.’

Matt from IGN discussing the faults of Wii Sports

‘While not deep, Wii Sports will serve as a nice introduction to the Wii since it is packaged with the system. Each game does a good job at reproducing a feeling of actually playing the sport. Add a few more remotes and you’ll have a great party game on your hands.’

NES Franchises that should be revived on the Wii

NES Baby

Wiitastic has refueled a conversation that always occurs when a new Nintendo console is released. Which classic [NES in this case] games or series should be reborn on the Wii?

Wiitastic lists Castlevania, RC Pro Am, Wizards and Warriors, Contra, Double Dragon and Ninja Gaiden as possible titles. While we don’t agree with all of these titles, some are classics that deserve an attempt to recreate the glory.

What titles would you bring to the Wii?

Grey gaming push by Nintendo

Old People

The New York Times have posted an article that reveals Nintendo’s grey gamer drive for the Wii and DS. Excerpts..

‘Nintendo has positioned Wii, its new video game console to be released on Nov. 19, as a system that will appeal not just to hard-core gamers, but also to older adults who may be more comfortable with Pong than Grand Theft Auto.

Nintendo’s booth was in unusual company on the show floor, surrounded by those promoting the American Academy of Audiology, Lighthouse International and the Southwest Lawn Bowls Association.

In addition to Wii, Nintendo also promoted its Brain Age game for the portable Nintendo DS, which includes a series of exercises that ostensibly help to improve brain functioning. To entice visitors, Nintendo employees walked the show floor wearing buttons that said, rather optimistically, “Ask Me My Brain Age.”’
