ZOMG It's Red Steel

Next-Gen.biz has profiled the 2006/2007 holiday efforts from Ubisoft, and chatted with Marketing Chief, Tony Key. Before long, conversation turned to Red Steel.

Red Steel, to a large extent, was built to order. “Nintendo were very specific about what they thought we could do for them, which was to make a first person action game. They came to us because that’s our forte and we were happy to oblige.”

MTV Throw Wii-mote around: Tough As

MTV Logo

MTV was playtesting their Wii when it happened. During a heated game of Suoer Monkey Ball: Banana Blitz, a reporter let go of the Wiimote.
Of course, you shouldn’t actually let go of the controller during Monkey Darts. But MTV News reporter James Montgomery did, either accidentally, or — yeah, that’s it — experimentally. The Wii-turned-dart sailed five feet forward and four feet down to the floor (James was sitting at the time). The battery hatch flew off. Two double-A batteries spilled out. A red disconnect error flashed on the screen. The room went quiet.

Montgomery picked up the pieces and reassembled the unit. He pressed a button and … it worked!

The Wiimote looks to be built Nintendo tough. Which for those of us playing on slate, concrete or tiled floors… is a god-send.

Reggie says Wii adverts will start soon

Saturday, November 11th, 2006

Despite the Playstation3 and the Nintendo Wii being released in the US in the next few days, both companies have maintained a drought of television adverts and appearances, with just a few strange submissions from Sony.

What did Reggie Fils-Aime, head of Nintendo America have to say about the matter?

Core gamers know when we’re coming out. They’re prepared,’ he said. ‘The advertising and marketing is for casual gamers. We want to get them excited when they can actually go out and get something, so we’ll start next week.’

So on release, we will see what may be a media saturation, and at the very least a strong Wii marketing campaign.
