Maple Story on the DS

MapleStory, the delightful MMORPG is coming to the Nintendo DS. We kid you not. While a Western release has yet to be confirmed, the mere though of playing an import sends a shudder down every DS owners spine.
The game is set for release in Korea and Japan at a date yet to be announced. The game is rumoured to be compatible with PC players, and only playable via wireless internet.
Do you think that Maple Story would work on the DS?

MS will work fine on the DS. They need to make sure it connects to the PC version, so everyone can play at the same time. Move with the d-pad, jump with the Left shoulder button. Put the skill slots on the touchscreen, along with buttons for the different chats, status screens, etc. You may not be able to access the Cash Shop, but thats not really a big deal!

Maple Story on the Nintendo DS will be a break through game for the Ninteno franchise BUT it will also open doors for hackers to ” mod “their DS sytem , unfortunally i DONT think that Maple Story for the Nintendo DS will be a MMORPG although we all are hoping it will unless there can be a way for other polayers to report there will allways be someone making private servers and ” BOTTING ” programs. If MAple Story came out for the DS there would have to be Three times the GMs not only banning player but patrolling. IP adress bans should be a way of preventing hackers, if someone is banned, ban them for GOOD

I think this is a great idea scince i can no longer play ms on my computer. this will be a huge jump for nintendo, and i can play with my same friends as i did on the PC plus i will get the millions of Mesos lost not playing anymore.

Lol my uncle told be about this but i did not belive him. I think that maple story on the ds will be alright, but, there are some people who have cheat engines on there ds. There will be lots more players for maplestory ds and less for maplestory on the p.c. More players more cheating.

Maple Story will be taking a risk if they make MS DS but if the is a hacking prevent system on the DS then it is an excellent idea for Nexon and the Nintendo franchise.

I freaken Love maple story. I just leveled up to level 30 today and that was like a month of work (bowman) so hopefully theres some connection between pc and ds. I’m def. buying this weither it comes here or not. IMPORT!

i like maple story is fun for PC. and i have a DS but i only have one game for it, metroid prime hunters-first hunt, which is a demo. so im going to get this for the DS and ill hope its better than the one for PC.

Well, I have done a small bit of research, but all I’ve come up with is this. Maple Story DS is scheduled to come out only in Korea September, 2007. Rumors are floating around the internet that it might come out worldwide on that date. Let’s hope so.
As for online play. The DS uses Wi-Fi to connect to the internet, which means online play is possible. But if you haven’t noticed, most games require you to enter a ‘friend code’ so that you can connect to them. Also, the games force you to select a very limited area, and it automatically searches for another player.
From what I have read, the DS has some ‘RAM issues’ and it cannot support servers. If this is true, then there is no way you could connect to your normal Maple Story account, as it runs on a server. There are some possibilities tho.
1. They could find a way around the RAM issue, and all our dreams would come true! ^_^
2. They could find a way of modifying your account, making it so you could import you character from the PC world to the DS world. This would increase the potential of hackers modifying their characters tho. Imagine that for you to import your character, you put in your account info, login, password, PIN, birthday, etc, and the game gives you a special code. You would enter the code in your DS and it would get verified by Nexon and then the file transfer could begin. BUT, if someone else got a hold of that code, they too could download your characters, mess with them, and re-upload them. (The only way they could do this is if they used your DS as the code would identify the MAC address)
3. They could make it so you can host private servers, which can, and is supported by the DS. There are so many security problems with private servers, that it would be unwise for them to let you used your PC account on them, as they could be easily hacked. To access such a private server, all you would have to do is either start one yourself, or input friend codes, and join another one that is started.

One of the biggest problems I foresee is exactly the RAM issue. If they cannot find a way for the DS to work on a server, then you cannot play with thousands of people, if you cannot play with thousands of people, it is not a true MMORPG.
I hope this has sparked some thought in all of your minds, and I hope Maple Story DS turns out to be a five start masterpiece!

Hey all. Well, maplestory ds is coming out worldwide september. As of now there is no official website for the game, but, if you dont trust me, check out the wiki. Anyways, Dakota Browning, as for the thing about the ram issue, your right, that is there biggest problem. but, such a problem has already gotten a solution. For example, the opera web browser comes with a slot 2 ram expansion so you can browse the web, with pics and video included. Now, all you people who are saying that this would just give a new wave of hackers if its pc compatible are wrong. Stop right here, because your wrong. I have a nintendo ds flashcard (r4) and I put in homebrew cheat engines and stuff like that, but there is no possible way to cheat with wi-fi games. I can tell you that now. So you can all take a deep breath now. Its the answer to our prayers, right? All I can say is that I hope they do manage to make this pc compatible, seeing as how they are claiming this to be “the first mmorpg for ds”. Although, from what Ive read, the game will have a singleplayer story mode which should last up to 15 hours of gameplay, an dthere will also be a wifi feature where you can join up with other MS DS players and do party quests. But as for pc compatible? Who knows.

i heard that maplestory DS is saposed to come out on september 4, 2007 acording to wiki like Garett said. Also heard that its gonna come in November, 2007 i dont remember from which site. Also, is it really gonna come out worldwide? There are rumors but its coming out in korea for sure on sep. About the transfering characters thing, once you start the game you go right to your characters, no putting in account names, passwords, etc. so we probaly wont be able to transfer. there is a single player mode and an online mode. i doubt that anyone could use cheat engines like action replay on the game when playing online. they will probaly get soemthing to guard the game like in pokemon diamond/peral they have poke-guard or soemthing like that. from what i saw on the demo version in korea the jump is kinda stiff and the enemies have alot of health and you have too little. it might just be me but you can decide: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MjH5HyQYH8U

This looks fantastic, actually. Great idea, only playable on Wi-fi. That would be sweet, because I have Comcast and an uber fast connection. Their definetly going to need an anti-hack system, and or have lots of GM’s on patrol. But as for the layout, it looks fantastic. I might have to go wardriving with my ds when I go on vacation, but otherwise, great idea!

Yea i did some research on the game and im POSITIVE that it is coming out global in september 2007. I think there might be some issues with the game, like will we have to start a new account? I sure hope not. It took me FOREVER to get to level 20,yea level 20,and I dont want to have to train that hard to re-level a new character.Also, how will the DS hold ALL the data MS needs? Maybe the game will have a way to get a code from the our accounts on nexon.net but,what if we cant? I REALLY dont want to train all over again.I think it might have options between wi-fi and no wi-fi because Im pretty sure nexon would know that some people (~me~) might not have wi-fi. i watched a video on you tube and i happened to have seen that in the game, you can randomize your look INCLUDING nx cash shop items (for those people who dont get nx) you can heal yourself and your mp whenever you want by talking to this fairy. But the thing that i dont think it will be that not cool about it is that you have 5 of these monsters and 5 of these other monsters. thats not really a quest. you can do so much to mushrooms (ORANGE MUSHROOMS) you can do like 200 and like do that 3 more times and then they die. they CAN do 315 to you also. where there is a grassy area, there are Yetis? That doesnt sound like Maplestory at all. Maplestory is better than that. the video didnt mention anything about Wi-Fi, so get your hopes up, because that information is still to come. Over all, i hope this game will be a hit (probably will) but i wanted you to think about it before getting your hopes up

p.s. i dont think you can go to an area when you want, you mught just have to stay there until you finish the quest. since that fairy can heal you FULLY AND MAYBE FOR FREE, the quests might only give you attack items, because you can randomize your look at anytime i think.

Hello everyone, I have some free time and I’ve been researching Maplestory for a LONG time. Some say that Maplestory isn’t out on the DS in Japan but if you look on youtube.com you’ll see that there really IS a Maplestory in Korea. One thing I spotted while watching a video though, It seems that there is one character, in other words, It’s not a WiFi connection to the internet. But it seems that I’m wrong because on a video it said that the connection has ended. Which means that it hooks to the internet but it seems to have only one character, not a world-wide internet game. But then again I could be wrong, as usual. Anyways, do some research on your own and see what you can spot about it. Of course i play Maplestory and my username in the game is

It would be COMPLETELY preposterous to think that they could actually make an MMORPG for the Nintendo DS, even with the RAM Expansion Pak. Plus, the Supercard only holds so much - way less than 700 MB.
So it will be a crappy slimmed-down version of the awesome MMORPG Maplestory. It will probably be single-player with the option to add friend codes and play with nearby people via Wi-Fi.
I’m still gunna buy it! xD
P.S. Keeping it a normal MMO (if that was possible) would make it 10 times LESS fun. Hackers, Scammers…. Shall I go on?

ok ya i agree this will be awesome becase i am am a huge maple fan you can tell because its me fangblade i know there are rumors of me hacking and i don’t ok back to the main thing of maple no the DS i have a DS but there will be stuff like ram issues and screen size issues and what button goes where for example you are fighting horntail you would not be press many buttons at once because maple has lots of buttons and ds not many it would also be hard to use the skills if your a high lvl cuz you’ll have lots of skills and it wold be harder to be jumping and using a skill at the same time other then that stuff this would be a breakthrough in 2008 tech

there could be a small wi-fi bit like a chat bit or maybe a maple trade center like free market but other than that. It would be just too hard to keep get so many people on wi-fi on a ds the technology isn’t advanced enough or at least i doubt it.

ms ds wil NOT be a mmo it will simply be a rpg BASED i repeat BASED on the online game, no account transfers, no mmo playong with many people (four will be the max) and it will have a storyline that you follow instead of just random quests that you do. there is NO CURRENT RELEASE DATE. all “release date leaks” are only rumors and once it come out in korea it will be at least 6 months before it is out in America, Canada etc. there no REAL online play and there will only be up to 4 player link to do quest ,trade,level, or just chat but no real online play. there will be no link to the online version for real play although there will be SOME things LIKE the online version like some towns Etc
I REPEAT IT IS NOT AN MMO IT IS AND RPG BASED ON THE ONLINE VERSION.

I think if nintendo has any intensions of a ms ds, they would have said something public by now. i hope they would make one, it’d be cheaper than buying a $650 laptop to play a free game. and if its free online, wouldn’t it be free on the ds too? by the way, i want anybody’s opion on what i should do:

I just read that someone said that there wouldnt be enough space on the ds but i disagree because i have an N5 ds card which you put a micro sd into it, but first you have to download the games software off their site then onto the card then all you have to do is download load the games for £1.50 a game or about $3. My micro sd has 2gb memory on it and you get some with 8gb memory so that would be enough memory for it.
The N5 card is about £40 or $40
The micro sd price would vary
The software is free
so after about the first 10 games it gets really cheap for alot of games

I played a demo of this game at E3 in Korea. It is NOT an MMORPG. It is 100% OFFLINE. You pretty much play the role of a Maple Character who becomes level 200. That’s it. It’s not as good as you think.
