December 14th, 2006 by Kit Allen

Europe was the last major Wii release country, and the buzz from successful international launches was hot. Europeans were so excited by the Wii that large queues formed up to three days before the Wii launch, at midnight on the 8th of December.

The Nintendo Wii sold a massive 325,000 units in the first two days of European sales, making it the fastest selling home console in history. 240,000 copies of The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess were sold, a 74% attach rate to hardware purchases. More than 50% of new Wii owners also took home a copy of WiiPlay, which includes an additional Wiimote.

Nintendo Europe says that they will ship daily all across Europe in an attempt to meet demand. Laurent Fischer, Nintendo Europe’s Marketing Director commented, “For those who were unable to buy Wii during the launch weekend, rest assured more stock is already on its way and we are doing everything possible to ensure that a steady supply of Wii units is shipped to stores across Europe throughout December and into 2007.
